Dutch hotel group citizenM hotels receives award for Best Innovative Concept in Midscale hotels

During the 8th Worldwide Hospitality Awards ceremony in Paris on 22nd November 2007, organized by the MKG group and HTR magazine, Worldwide Hospitality Awards were awarded to hotel companies excelling in 12 categories. citizenM was honoured with the award for Best Innovative Concept in Midscale Hotel, beating the two other finalists Aloft and Five hotels in this category.

Best Innovative Hotel Concept

citizenM hotels launched its brand identity and hotel concept to the world on 10th September 2007 and was nominated for a Worldwide Hospitality Award within one week of its brand launch.

Over 150 hotel and affiliated companies were selected for the Worldwide Hospitality Awards competition. A professional jury of 30 hotel industry professionals, experts, executives and architects initially selected 20 nominees per category and finally determined 3 finalists for each category. "The submissions this year were overwhelmingly positive and of high quality. The entries are becoming better in innovation every year, it has been an exciting process of reviewing and making difficult choices" says Georges Panayotis worldwide hospitality awards founder and chairman MKG group.

In the eyes of the jury, the Dutch hotel group citizenM exceeded all competitors with its affordable luxury hotel concept. citizenM hotels received the award Best Innovative Hotel Concept in Midscale Hotels because of its unique design and optimized use of room space, designed by architects Concrete; its technical innovations by Philips, such as the touch screen 'moodpad' and 'ambient lighting' technology; the luxurious citizenM amenities; the diverse food & beverage assortment and the designer furnishing by Vitra.

citizenM hotel Amsterdam Schiphol Airport
The first citizenM hotel will open at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport in 2008. It will offer affordable luxury in all 230 rooms, Vitra furnished 'living rooms/lobbies' and citizenM's food & beverage concept 'canteenM'. The second citizenM hotel will open its doors near Amsterdam's World Trade Centre.

Future locations
In the first roll-out phase of citizenM, 20 hotels are planned to open across major cities in Europe. Cities such as London, Barcelona, Glasgow, Berlin, Stockholm, Brussels, Milan, Copenhagen, Moscow, Paris, Istanbul, Warsaw, Budapest.
